Mother’s Day

Mother's Day

Bonne Fete to all the mother’s in the world, from Pont des Art.

There is no better celebration than to sit on this pedestrian bridge, facing west, and watch the city turn from the amber glow of the late afternoon light…

To the legendary early evening l’heure bleu – when all of Paris is cast in a lavender blue twilight – caught between daylight and darkness…

To the deep sapphire blue night sky, when the thousands of floodlights turn on between nine thirty and ten o’clock, creating an amazing glow thoughout the entire city.

With a picnic dinner and champagne in hand, we sit and savor these few hours and inspired view. This is my family’s favorite dinner in the city of light.

On this bridge, over 2,000 tiny padlocks of all shapes, colors, sizes and nationalities are locked to the bridge emblazened with messages of eternal love.

After couples have signed and placed their lock on the bridge, they throw the key over their backs and into The Seine, as a symbol of their eternal love.

It reminds me today of a mother’s love.

How we are locked, evermore, with our children and their generations, perhaps yet to come.

To all my generations of grandmothers, mother, mother in law, other mothers, aunts, sister in law, cousins…

To all the dozens of years of captivating grandmothers and mothers of the brides and grooms…

And to each and every dear friend who makes my own role as a mother more cherished with every day:

Happy Mother’s Day.
